i need help.. i am looking for an italian singer female in alto-soprano or soprano vocal range that sounds like Emma Shapplin.. I know she is not italian but she sings in italian.
she has to be a crossover..

There are plenty of singers who aren't Italian that sing in Italian. Heck, I am one of them! Italian compositions is a must have in the classical field.

For sopranos with a massive following that sing alot of Italian literature, look to Renee Fleming, Maria Callas, Kiri Te Kanawa, Leontyne Price, Joan Sutherland, Kathleen Battle, Beverly Sills, Deborah Voight, Jeysse Norman, and a much older but forgotten soprano singer is Anna Moffo.

For Mezzo Soprano singers (that is what you called an alto-soprano singer) with a massive following is Cecilia Bartoli, Denyce Graves, Susan Graham, Marilyn Horne, Teresa Berganze, Janet Baker, and and another much older but forgotten one was Marian Anderson (she called herself a contralto, but many thought she was a Mezzo with an incredible lower range).

These are just to name a few. They are real classical artists, and they don't play around with their skills. If you are looking for a lighter sound mezzo or soprano, look to singers like Cecilia Bartoli and Kathleen Battle. If you are looking for a heavier sounding mezzo or soprano, look to Marilyn Horne or Leontyne Price. You can find CD's with any of these artists, and you can find them singing strictly Italian literature. Have fun and enjoy.
