Thought to be honest, i think Bleed it Out is the first time i've been able to stand one of their songs since i was in the 8th grade... and even then the lyrics suck. Guilty Pleasure i guess.

see i know where your cming from but i beg to differ because there is differences in some songs they rap in some songs they rock in some songs they do both listen to one step closer in the end and bleed it out in a row and you wont think that

True, true...I agree that every song of theirs sounds the same (especially on Meteora). I liked them when I was about 13 until I decided to deviate to alternative artists.
I agree with the guy above me that said Nickelback sucks too, that band tries to tug on heartstrings with absolutely mundane lyrics (Wanna Be A Rockstar is terrible...).
You know, Animal Collective's newest album hit #72 on the Billboard Top 200 on its first week. I'd say there's a sizable amount of Americans who enjoy creativity, so that's a real cop-out, elitist excuse. As for LP's success, they appeal primarily to a young demographic, and as such they market themselves to a crowd that's easiest to market anything toward. Incidentally, the 14-year-old fans they snagged with their first album are now old enough to drink, so it's no coincidence that their latest efforts are being panned by longtime fans: They've grown up and the music hasn't.

EDIT: Actually, to revise my above statement, I would argue that there is a THIRST among audiences for something new and flavorful, but at the same time, they're not willing to do the legwork and instead wait for it to come to them. This has been true in all countries since forever.

And no, I wouldn't say we Americans don't like creativity. Personally, I get as far away from mainstream as possible. The reason they can keep selling records is the simple fact that kids essentially rule the music industry. So how can you expect them to have much taste at all as to what comes on the radio? Last I checked, kids will listen to anything that plays on the radio and like it. And, they also don't research new bands. Why not? They're children.
Ask me what I listened to when I was younger. I'll tell you I was quite the Backstreet Boy fan. As was every other young girl in the world. Does it make them talented? HELL NO! But it played on the radio, therefore we listened!
