ok, first of all the other 2 people on here dont know anything about bass apparently.

Bass is a guitar.... its just a lower tone than a standard 6 string guitar. usually has 4 strings but can have 5 or 6 or 7 or hell even only 1 string. check out les claypool playing that.

Bass is what gives the music beef and ties the guitars and drums together. makes the sound full and meaty.

and bass guitars are not rare and in anyway overly expensive.... if there so rare then how come every freakin band has a bass player... go into a guitar center or sam ash or jeeze, any guitar shop really there will be a bass section. there are basses ranging from 200 maybe cheaper up to a few grand. depends obviously of the maker and such.
haha. A bass has four strings, and its much deeper. Its hard to hear the bass in most rock songs. Its kind of the rhythm in the background.
a bass is somethig that sound like bum bum on anything (not your mouth) usualy at songs.

a bass guitar has strings and its hard to hear for people who are there and an electric guitar has connected to a wire to the boxes and the obxes makes all sound (the difference is the sound) oo and a bass guitar is rare and expensive
Simply put, thicker strings that create a lower pitch.
The electric bass guitar (or "electric bass") is a bass stringed instrument played with the fingers by plucking, slapping, popping or using a pick. The bass is typically similar in appearance and construction to an electric guitar, but with a larger body, a longer neck and scale length, and 4 strings tuned one octave lower in pitch than the bass strings of a guitar. Since the 1950s, the electric bass has largely replaced the double bass in popular music. The bass is typically used to provide the low-pitched bassline(s) and bass runs in many different styles of music ranging from rock and metal to blues and jazz. The electric bass is also used as a soloing instrument in jazz, fusion, Latin, funk, and rock styles.

An electric guitar is a type of guitar that uses pickups to convert the vibration of its steel-cored strings into electrical current, which is then amplified. The signal that comes from the guitar is often electrically altered to achieve various tonal effects prior to being fed into an amplifier, which produces the final sound which can be either an electrical sound or an acoustic sound. Devices commonly used by guitarists are meant to add distortion, wah, equalization, tremolo, and phase shift, amongst others, in some cases radically changing the sound that is emitted from the amplifier.

Despite its traditional association with rock music, the electric guitar has long been used in many popular styles of music, including almost all genres of rock and roll, country music, jazz, blues, ambient (or "new-age"), and even contemporary classical music. The instrument's distinctive sound and intimate connection with many legendary internationally-famous musicians has made it the signature instrument of late twentieth-century music. Specialized steel guitars are also in use, although they are to be considered a different instrument. This distinction has important consequences on claims of priority in the history of the electric guitar.
Bass guitars have four strings and are far thicker, this makes a deeper sound (far deeper then the guitar). Guitars have 6 strings and the individual strings are easier to play.

Bass guitars work with the drums to create a rhythm for the other members to work with. Pixies are a good band for listening to bass.
