Answers: ONE THAT COMES TO MIND FOR ME IS...
"RING OF FIRE"..THAT HORN SECTION IS AWESOME!
Rollin' With The Flow by Charley Pride. I just LOVE that drum roll intro. Ba da da da BOOM, (steel guitar...) Repeat. Then, Once was the thought inside my head, 'fore I reached thirty I'd be dead...

NOW I want to go dig that song out. Thanks, Helen!!!

EDIT: Gads. Did I say Charley Pride? It's too late at night. I meant Charlie Rich. Jeez, I worry about myself sometimes. I was thinking also of Charley Pride's Is Anybody Goin' To San Antone as a great song intro and I just plain got my wires crossed.
The first few notes Floyd Cramer plays in "Last Date".
I can usually tell "I love a rainy night" by Eddie Rabbit...it has snapping fingers in the intro and that's it.
Is it Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash?
For me it is Crazy Arms by Ray Price but then again being a steel player myself I pay a lot of attention to the steel guitar intro's by such greats as Jimmy Day, Lloyd Green etc. Lloyd does the intro on Charley Pride's "I Know One" that is also easily recognized for me. " Why else would that instrument have the great tendency to steel your heart away?
How about- The Devil went down to Georgia- Charlie Daniels Band?

Dan- I LOVE the song Rollin' with the Flow!!!
BTW- It was Charlie Rich, not Pride who did that song.
Well, the one that instantly springs to mind;because it's one of my all time favourites from the R&R era as well as country is:
Walk On By - Leroy VanDyke.

Others I like with instantly recognisable intos to most fans.
42 in Chicago - Merle Kilgore
Jole Blon - Jimmy C Newman
Saginaw, Michigan - Lefty Frizzell
Sweet Dreams - Patsy Cline
Sing Me Back Home - Merle Haggard
I Believe In You - Don Williams
Made In Japan - Buck Owens
Choices - George Jones

When I hear the intro to the songs , I get as excited as a kid in a candy store before the even lyrics start.
Hello Darlin' by Conway Twitty
Devil Wen t Down To Georgia-Charlie Daniels
Or Drinking My Baby Goodbye
Silver Wings by Mearle Haggard too....

Islands in The Stream
ring of fire, behind closed doors, proud to be an american, conways twitty's songs, george straits old ones, most of charlie rich's songs, all the songs in the clint eastwood movies that have the arangatan in them (the stuff's on the tip of my tongue) i don't know anyhting about the instruments, but i love the old country music because that what i heard as a kid and (as tough as things were) that old stuff is easy to recognize because of the few good memories associated with them
ya'll seem to know what REAL music is and i admire that.
family tradition by hank jr.
