Answers: Classic, New Country and Bluegrass (82 yr. old country fan)
Thanks!
Check out the soundtrack to O, Brother, Where Art Thou. There's a beautiful Alison Kraus rendition of "I'll Fly Away."
funeral songs are usually gospel songsbut if you want to do a regular country song then i would do one of their favorites.
im a big bluegrass fan and my favorite song is ralph stanleys "when i wake up, to sleep no more" check it out... also billy joe shaver does one called "live forever "
Do you remember the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou"? The soundtrack has some very nice songs that I think would be appropriate for a funeral. I am very sorry for your loss.
I think you should base the funeral on what kind of music your friend liked. Gospel and Country music are popular choices but if your friend liked rock, then find some rock music....you're celebrating your friends life not trying to impress others. One song that we played at my grandma's funeral that i think was VERY pretty was Tim McGraw's "Please remember me"...give that a try. Best wishes!
I would say something from george jones ,there is one song i cant remember the name of it but it refers to a friend dieing without saying any death words. It is a very good song and ole georgr jones is a very good artist. There is one also he does that i think is titled She stopped loving him today.
My father passed away about 1 year ago and when ever I hear the song, "When I get where I'm going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Pardon, I think about him and how much of a better place he is. I hope this helps and I'm sorry for your loss.
if i had only known....by reba
There is a Johnny Paycheck song called Old Violin... I would loved that played at my funeral... There is also Go Rest High on that Mountain by Vince Gill...
One more day - Rascal Flatts
Believe by Brooks and Dunn
When I get where I'm going Brad Paisly
Go rest high on that mountains Vince Gill
holes in the floors of heaven..........older patty loveless , help me say goodbye
when my grandma passed away my mom wanted to play..."Love me" by colin raye about the grandma who passed away and the grandpa read a note she wrote to him. it's like..
if you get there before i do
don't give up on me
i'll meet you when my chores are through
i don't know how long i'lll be
but i'm not gonna let you down
darlin wait and see
and between now and then
till i see you again
i'll be lovin you
love me
The Dance by Garth Brooks
how about Johny Cash and June Carter Cash: the one about the circle, her parents wrote it? any way the songs about a circle bein' unbroken
will the circle be unbroken by and by lord by and by somethin somethin somethin in the sky lord in the sky
I may be wrong about who wrote it
also one of your friend's favorite songs would be a good rememberance
and all the others that were mentioned in answers esp. vince gill, brad paisley, allison krause and the o brother where art thow
sorry for the loss, keep on keepin' on
When somebody passes, I like to listen to "Still Within The Sound Of My Voice" by Glen Campbell. It's not really a "funeral" song, but listening to the lyrics, I can kind of equate it that way.

Glen Campbell - Still Within The Sound Of My Voice Lyrics

Where have you gone
My darling one
Are you on your own
Are you having fun
Is there someone to hold
When you need it bad
Is it uncontrolled
Like the love we had
Does a day go by
Like a memory
Do you ever try
To remember me
In an automobile
Or a crowded bar
Well I hope you're alright
Wherever you are

And if you're still within the sound of my voice
Over some radio
I just want you to know
You were always my only choice
And wherever you go
That I still love you so
If you're still within the sound of my voice

In the dead of night
Do you hear me call
Something's quite not right
No one's there at all
Did you make a mistake
Was it in your head
Or was it merely me talking
To your heart instead

And if you're still within the sound of my voice
Over some radio
I just want you to know
That it always made me rejoice
Just to have you so near
There's a place for you here
If you're still within the sound of my voice

I am calling like the echo
Of a passing train that cries
One last time before it fades into
The distant hills and dies
I am sending out a message
Like a ship out on the sea in distress
But only you can send a lifeline out to me

Are you still within the sound of my voice
Why don't you let me know
I just can't let you go
If it's wrong then I have no choice
But to love you until
I no longer have the will
If you're still within the sound of my voice

I am calling like the echo
Of a passing train that cries
One last time before it fades into
The distant hills and dies
When my nephew died they sang Garth Brooks "The Dance" and Colin Raye's "In This Life" (that one makes me cry every time I hear it--beautiful song). There is also a beautiful song by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton "When I get Where I'm Going".
As far as bluegrass goes, Vince Gill's "Go Rest High on That Mountain" is beautiful. I know it's not really traditional bluegrass, but it's close. Good luck and I am sorry to hear of your loss.
I liked Amy Grant's "remember me"
"Hard Times Come Again No More." An old song from the Civil War.
"When I get where I'm going" by Brad Paisley and Dolly Pardon
Diamond Rio - God Only Cries, One More Day
LeAnn Rimes - Probably Wouldn't Be This Way
Garth Brooks - The Dance
Mark Wills - Wish You Were Here
