I would say yeah. I've bought cd's in the past at the record store of my favorite artists. But when I don't have the money and the time to go out and buy the cd, then i will download it. Why not?

You can be a fan and a thief at the same time. To say that if you steal the music you can’t possibly be a fan is short-sighted and inaccurate.
A fan is someone who enjoys the product, persona, or person of whom they are a fan. Just as a misguided fan of a celebrity can resort to stalking or other illegal behavior, a music fan can resort to illegal piracy of the music. The concepts are unrelated – a fan enjoys the music, and a pirate steals the music. You can steal music that you aren’t a huge fan of – just because you can, and you can be a fan of music, but steal it anyway.
Remember – “Fan” is short for “Fanatic”, and a fanatic is rarely a good thing to be.
I believe it is ok. I am a white guy that lives in Northwest Ohio and I would not have been exposed to a lot of good music if I hadn't downloaded it first. If it is something I enjoy I eventually go out and buy the album. Plus, rappers piss me off sometimes because they will record 20-30 songs for an album and end up only using about 16 or 17. They then release these songs to mixtape DJs and what not. I am not about to go spend my money on some mixtape for one song. So, basically I really only download "unreleased" songs and freestyles. But you can definately be a real hip hop fan and still download. The artists don't see much of that money off of record sales anyways.
I think if you like hip hop that you don`t have to download it you just need to listen it on the radio or on the net.That is all I`ve to say.
I'm i Lub rap hip pop and i do down load there shyt except under ground well i hang out with a few under ground rappers so i get it for free but hey ever1 one does it
i personally think being a fan of something has absolutely nothing to do with how u enjoy it. when i feel like buying or am able to do so, i do. if not i don't. i've borrowed music, stolen it, gave it away, etc. it doesn't change if i'm a fan or not. it's like trying to sneak into a concert that u can't afford to go to.do it by any means necessary. THAT'S A FAN!!!
i try to buy their cds whenever i can , but if i was short of money or couldnt find their albums then i'd do some google work :)
