Peter Green was better than Clapton in his heyday?!

Question:

Peter Green was better than Clapton in his heyday?

Personally I think so but what do you think?
Sorry for the heresy as Clapton was God but there you go lol

Answers: I think you might be right. I liked him better, but I'm not a musician and they see and hear things differently sometimes. When Peter Green played with John Mayall's Blues Breakers, the legend wriiten on walls was

"Green is God."

When he went off to form Fleetwood Mac {bassist John McVie following soon after}, and Eric Clapton took his place, the new legend was

"Clapton is God"

For me, Peter came first, and was the better guitarist.

And no matter how good Clapton was, even he was left speachless when an as-yet unknown guitarist called Jimi Hendrix got up to jam with Cream. 2 totally different playing techniques, both sound great to me. Peter Green had issues but he's back. Clapton had a better grip on life No: I like Peter Green a lot, but apart from being a little more sweetly melodic in his playing, he has nowhere near the musical scope or emotional range of Clapton as a singer, writer and guitarist. I havent heard much of Peter Green but I definately think Clapton is overrated.

I like some of his music, but a lot of it sounds the same, and I don't understand what all the fuss is about. There are a lot better players from the same era and even some new ones. Derek Trucks for example is an amazing young guitarist and I think he can give Clapton a run for his money.
