I'm Japanese and don't understand the meaning of "shooting star" in the following lyrics.
"And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold"
I know what "all that glitters is gold" and "break the mold" mean. I also know the general meaning of "shooting star" that is a streak of light in the sky at night .
However, I don't know the meaning of "shooting star" in this context.

It means that in order to "break the mold" - (or be a bit different/ try something new/ stand out from the crowd) - you have to be like a "shooting star" - that is, you have to be a bit spectacular, brilliant, star-like. Have you heard the expression "shoot for the stars"?? It is along the same lines - it means aiming high. So, say if there was someone who worked really hard in their particular profession, and maybe stood out and tried new things - then that person could be likened to a shooting star - bright, sparkly, dazzling! - totemo kirei. (I think that's right?)
So, if you're not bright, dazzling, sparkly, and like a star, you don't "break the mold" - that means, you're the same as everyone else! most stars are not shooting stars (streaks of light in the sky at night), seeing a shooting star is a rare thing...when they say only shooting stars break the mold means that only rare things stand out and are different

Shooting stars are spectacular so a shooting star breaks the mold because they are so different and better, they are not like everyone else. shooting star probably means..if you stand out amonst the crowd and are original then you will shine like a star.be true to your self and others! They are saying reach for your highest goal. Gor for it, because if you Never try you will never get anywhere in your life. it means that only people whjo persue their dreams and are " bursting" or "shooting" with life can break social barriers ( the mold)
