Recording music?!

Question:

Recording music?

I am in a band, we have been practicing a lot, and are ready to start recording...
we have NO idea how to go about doing this..
we want to buy our own sound equipment (we think?)
but we are unsure of where to find good quality equipment.
please give me your opinion or advice of what we should do...
anything would help us at this point.

Answers: start by finding an honest person at your local music store to talk to you about home recording. Have a budget in mind, wether it's $100 or $1000, know how much you can invest. Stay away from used recording equipment. You can get a simple set up with a single mic and start doing multitrack recordings just to get some songs out there to your friends. Another (easier) option is to go into a real studio and record a song. Focus on one at a time, don't believe people who say you need to have three or whatever. Pick your best song, practice it until you think you'll never want to hear it again, then book a few hours in a reputable studio. Don't go for the cheapest, find a good one, you get what you pay for. In a good studio, they'll know exactly what to do. Tell them your budget and that you just need to record one song. Tell them the bands that you like the sound of and let them do the rest. Soon you'll have a single with a professional quality sound that you can put on the internet, burn copies and hand out to your friends, etc. It's important to get the music out there, but it does take an investment. That guy is right. Get your band together, hit up all parents and relatives, $100 from each of them.
