Is it a good idea to wear a glove while i play my acoustic guitar to avoid bleed!

Question:

Is it a good idea to wear a glove while i play my acoustic guitar to avoid bleeding?

I'm still a teenager, and my fingers are pretty soft, and I dont want it to get tough and rough skin. So I thought of wearing a glove, a baseball batting glove. It works fine with me but sometimes the guitar sound weird. Is there a place where i can buy a guitar glove? Or should I just keep my baseball glove?

Answers: If you're going to be a guitarist, sacrifices have to be made. You're going to have to get calluses on your fingertips. Every guitarist has them. I had blood blisters on my fingers when I started playing. Eventually they will go away and you'll have calluses and it will be all good. This question actually reminds me of a story about Stevie Ray Vaughan when he was first starting out and playing at blues bars in Texas. He would play really long sets and the calluses on his fingers would shred and fall off, and he would just superglue them back on in between sets. At any rate, suck it up and lose the glove, you're not going to be able to play as well wearing a glove anyway, just get your calluses and be done with it. i never wear gloves while playing a guitar... ummm... if you want to look like a total idiot... go for it. If you really want to play the guitar than just suck it up and be a man! Why not use a pik? It sounds just as good and you shouldn't be hurting your fingers this way.

But the idea is to get caluses on your fingers so you CAN play without a pik. I wouldn't reccommend using a glove because the sound might come out distorted.

I'm also not sure if they make gloves strictly for this purpose. If they do then I guess it would be alright to use one. Call an Musical instrument store. I'm sure they have full of gadgets and alternatives for your case. Look it up in the yellow pages. your playing will actually improve if you let callouses develop. It's not like they're permanent, they will go away if you stop playing awhile. wats wrong with gettin ur fingers rough?
its kinda cool. haha trust me its only like a week of hurting and they'll be fine. and iv never heard of people bleeding from playing the g-tar.. My daughter plays cello, which is rougher on her fingers than guitar strings. She has built up some pretty impressive calluses on the fingers of her left hand. They don't look too bad and she says an interesting thing she can do is push a pin or a needle through one of them and it doesn't hurt.
