How old is too old to start taking piano lessons?!

Question:

How old is too old to start taking piano lessons?

It's something I missed out on when I was a kid, but always wanted to try. I'm 27 years of age now... do piano teachers tend to treat older students different than younger ones?

In other words, are they more likely to refuse to teach older people? You know, the whole "can't teach an old dog new tricks" thing.

As a piano teacher, I am willing to teach anyone if they have a real love for music, or want to develop one. You can expect to learn from Adult Beginner books, instead of the little kid ones. And the teacher will be able to explain things in a more articulate manner. But don't be afraid to ask questions! Most teaching is about asking questions so the student discovers the answer. Piano Teacher Good piano teachers treat all their students at each student's level of understanding and speed of learning.
However, some teachers prefer certain age groups (just like school teachers), so you need to find one that teaches adults.

And its never too late to learn anything, if you're willing to work at it. It's never too old to learn anything! Give it a try, there are plenty of teachers out there that would be more than glad to teach you, age is nothing but a number..lol. NO! anyone can learn new things. Might take a little longer because it's harder to take in new information once your brain's stopped growin but you could learn it at 99 at would be okay :P This is a common question. I started at 45 - so 27 is nothing... It is not a question of age, it is a question of commitment, time available, what kind of music you wish to play, etc. the thing about teaching older children is that it might take them longer to pick it up its all about your dream love,
but its good when u starts when still a child cuz u have plenty of time..

http://man-gold-bracelet.blogspot.com/... My husband is a piano instructor, and although he mostly teachers children his oldest student is 57. He really enjoys teaching him because he's more dedicated than some of his younger students. IT WOULD BE LATE IF YOU'RE IN YOUR DEATHBED. I know someone who started at her 70s. 27 is no age at all! Of course you can learn piano. I have taught many adults and find them disaplined and keen learners. I always find it a pleasure to teach adults. OK you might not have the dexterity of a kid, and please don't dream of becoming a concert pianist, but there is no reason why you shouldn't become a competant pianist. My dad started to learn the clarinet at age 60, and later played in a wind band. You're never too old to try something new. I'm 20 and I sure as hell would love to learn to play the piano. Such a fine instrument.
