On recording, my voice sounds like a child. What must be the reason?!

Question:

On recording, my voice sounds like a child. What must be the reason?

I am a matured lady, learning singing since 3 years. Why my voice sounds like a 7-8 years old child? Not in singing only, it sounds so on telephone also.Is this the timber of voice? Or it is still untrained is the reason? Any remedial measures?

Answers: Well, something you need to remember is people are just plain born with different instruments. There is no protocol of what we should sound like, so don't look to the average example. I can tell you from my perspective, I don't have a "regular" sounding instrument. My instrument has always been unique from others, even those in my same vocal fach. People will say most opera singers sound just alike, but if you heard my voice, you would know my instrument is just plain different. So don't be offended by your unique gift. I say in my own case, you like it or you don't. I don't care. LOL! I love not sounding like anyone else, and you should too! I have a friend who is a lyric soprano who, when she picks up the phone, sounds like a 15 year old girl. She's almost crossing into her late 30's! But her singing voice is OUT OF THIS WORLD! She accepted the natural instrument she had, which probably sounded childlike in the beginning, and worked on it with study. I wouldn't want her voice any other way.

There might be the factor that you are untrained, but training isn't going to change your instrument. That's a fact that you are going to get used to. Training will enhance what you have. Yes, your voice may gain a little weight with training and proper diaphragmatic support. It will develop into a better sounding instrument, but it won't change it. It's like me trying to make a flute sound like a clarinet. No matter who is behind the instrument, no matter how much skill the person has, it will not change the fact it will never sound like a clarinet. And I love it! I love the fact you are different. If you train, you could very well morph into a coloratura, or a light soprano. These voices are usually EXTREMELY agile, and can do things most voice types can't begin to do. Work with what you have, and make it strong. I don't like when everyone looks for a prototype of what we are supposed to sound like. There is none. You have what you have. Trying to drive your instrument to sound darker isn't a wise idea.

Another factor that might change your instrument sound is the aging process. Even after puberty, the voice still matures well into your thirties. So if you are still in your twenties or thirties, be aware that your voice could be going through changes well after adulthood. On the other hand, don't look for any drastic change. As I stated before, work with WHAT YOU HAVE! When you turn on the radio, the most famous GOOD singers are the ones with the most unique instruments. No matter what they are singing, even if it is unfamiliar to you, certain singers you just know by hearing them. Having a unique instrument will stand you out from the rest. Work with what you got, get some training, and blow them away with your gift! Source(s):
Professional singer/teacher This is probably because you ARE a 7-8 year old child... you're are just playing dress-ups and forgot that you are not really a "matured lady"
