Question for My Chemical Romance fans?!

Question:

Question for My Chemical Romance fans?

No, I am NOT a fan of MCR but I'm just curious. What do you mean when you say "My Chemical Romance saved my life!'' or "I owe my life to them!" I don't get it. A memeber of the band didn't walk into your house and stop you from doing something you weren't supposed to be doing. I think they're(MCR)are only doing this because it's sort of a fad now. The "Oh, pitty me!" thing. I'm not saying all of the fans are like this but some are. Plus, some MCR fans say they don't care about what people think about MCR but when someone says they don't like MCR it's "You suck! You don't even know good music. MCR saved my life and they rock!" If you don't care about what people think of them you wouldn't have said anything. I'm not trying to put the fans down I'm just wondering about what some of them say. I'm sorry if this is kind of long.

Answers: people say that MCR saved their life because their music helps people to deal with stuff that they're going through, it's so relatable, if you understand the metaphors, and it lets people know that they're not alone, and that they can get through their hardships, no matter how trite they are or may seem. i don't think people say it because they want pity, i think they say it because they feel awakened by my chemical romance and want to spread that feeling.
it's just like why you would wear your favorite band's t-shirt, because you want people to know that you love that band and show your support, so when people say mcr saved their life, they're showing their support and letting people know that that band opened their eyes to the greater things in life and realized how big the world really is.
so, if that made any sense . . .
it does to me, but. i'm a true believer.

and thanks for not directly putting the fans down, because that's pretty pathetic. even if some of them do go overboard, it's never okay to stereotype. Source(s):
i think that something good can be found in all music, not just what i like. i should b askin this i do like teenagers thought oh ya it is long but iv seen longer it pretty much means that theyre wicked awesome and without them, us MRC fans will die. I heard a lot of buzz about My Chemical Romance. I knew they were very popular with young teens.
I heard they were an Emo band, and Emo kids love them.
So I checked out one of their tunes on the Web.
It was not very impressive.
I think they are an image band....fans are responding to their image and what they represent more than to the music. I am not a fan either but I just want to applaud you for saying this. I have a few bones to pick about MCR and their masses. I went to a concert in which MCR was playing and there I saw parents that brought their kids to see this "band" "perform" All of the band members seemed like dicks spitting into the crowd and kicking things off stage. I can understand getting into music, but these guys are just like arrogant bastards. I personally don't want to be spit on by some guy that is trying to be like a Michael Jackson/Jesus rip-off. Please save me from lame bands. Well, around here, it's just another band (but a pretty good one) really. I've never heard anyone say that but they could be trying to say that the music got them through some tough times. I like them, but I mean, in no way have they ever saved my life.

Maybe the people are hinting that the MCR members are secretly crime fighters or super heroes, hehe. WTH are you talking about this isn't just a my chemical romance question.. people do this all the time. They don't realize that they aren't the first person to want to kill themselves or feel left out etc etc --- and songs "speak out to them" --- it fits there situaution so well (because they dont realize that a lot of ppl feel similar to they way they do)
I dont think these bands literally come over to their house and hang out with them and "save their life" they just make those individuals realize that they aren't alone-- there are other people out there dealing with thte same things. I don't get it ether how did becoming a depressed pale kid with cuts on your arm become cool? When I was in High School ( class of 99 ) We called them people depressed, Plus they think their all being orginal bt they all look alike listen to the same music and I ma pretty sure they did this in the 80's too it was called Goth, Get over yourselfs and get a life you creepy little bassturds<-------( Fish Poop ) Meh, I think the whole 'MCR saved my life' thing is kinda lame, it's just a saying now with no meaning, too cliche. I think most of MCRs fan base are emos and emos tend to be self harming so maybe they dont harm thenselves when they listen to them or are obsessing over their videos or pictures of gerard way etc. I'm not slagging off emos, just saying :) lol. im a fan of mcr..
but i don't think they have saved my life.
my life isnt in need of saving yet ;P
but i understand what people mean when they do say that - they were probably extremely depressed in the past, to a point where they wanted to commit suicide. then mcr helped them get through that stage of their lives with music ^_^ well its believeably tht mcr has wrote their songs about tradegies in the earth like the apocolypse. and ppl say "mcr saved my life" cuz since many emo kids listen to mcr, the kids try to kill themselves cuz they hate their life. but when they hear mcr, they regret killing themselves. im a total mcr fan but im not an emo thts for sure They are good to listen to, I enjoy their music. I am a fan of theirs, too. However, they did not "save my life" and I don't think they are "soooo hot." I really think that a person you actually KNOW can save your life, but somebody you've never met... no, I don't think so.
Oh, and at the concerts, I don't think they are rude to the fans... I have never heard of that, and never seen them do that. I don't know, there's a lot of teenagers who think that they've had this life changing impact on their lives. A lot of those teens are referred to as "emos." The only problem I have with so-called "emo" people is that they think that they're depressed, as though nobody else is. Yes, preppy people are depressed too, the Abercrombie and Hollister wearing preps they hate oh-so-much get depressed, too. I just felt like bringing that point up, sorry for my rant. Anyways, I like their music, it has made me feel better at times, but no life changing impact at all. No bands have had a life changing impact on me, actually. I think people take music way to seriously sometimes!
Oh, I also liked how you didn't insult their fans. Other people would have said something along the lines of "MCR is horrible, why do all their stupid teenage fans like them anyways?!" Thanks for not putting that. I actually enjoyed providing an answer to this question.
Also, I believe people think they "saved their lives" because they discuss some issues that teenagers deal with. What teen doesn't sometimes like having their own teenage issues said back to them through the speakers, a reminder that they're not by themselves?
I really enjoyed answering this question, it was quite thought provoking... Anyways, have a lovely day! when they say my chem. saved my life it means they saved their lives. its because of what they say and what they do. Saying 'they saved my life' is in no way limited to MCR. Many people find that they can relate to certain band's music, and that their songs affect them emotionally. Obviously the band hasn't actively saved their life, but their music has touched them and made them realise that they are not alone, or that someone understands them.
MCR does make emotional music (hence the term 'emo') so it is understandable that a lot of people feel their music helped them in some way. As a MCR fan myself, I feel their first albums were better than the black parade, but they are still making genuine music. It just happens to be appreciated by more people these days.
XOX pfh......i don't care about MCR. your right when you said they didn't come into there house and stoped them from doing something you wern't soposed to do. but i can say Rock music saved my life cause if i didn't start listening to System Of A Down with my friend Vanessa, i would be listening to really bad music like rap and country. I think it's probably to do with something MCR's singer Gerard Way said once -

"We want you to live. We want to save your lives. You saved ours. We never want to let a single thing hurt any of you. And you should all know...if you support us...you are not a cult. You are a f**kin' ARMY."

:-) well i am a fan of My Chem. I don't think I have ever said that but if I have I would be quoting for Life on the Murder Scene which is a video diary of there life and at the beginning of it there is a scene from one of there shows and gerard says to someone in the crowd "what does your shirt say" and it said "MCR saved my life" and gerard responded with "thats the f*cking really point." He went on saying stuff about how the band saved his life and helped him with his problem and how there are five dudes(the band members) just as messed up as anyone. I think people have so much in common and like worship this band that loving this band helps them live there life every day to the fullest and help them get over there problems.

Sorry if this didn't make any sense to you. but if you have any friends that likes my chem and has life on the murder scene you should watch it or atleast the first 20 minutes cuz that will tell you about how MCR saves peoples lives. When MCR first started out, they liked to think they were a band that saved kids lives, as explained on their dvd LOTMS. Now, however, a lot of fans still belive MCR saved their life, but sometimes its fans which are new to the band, and look back at them a few years ago, and see kids saying they (MCR) saved their lives, and want to be like the old 'hardcore' fans.
When people say 'They saved my life' and mean it, they could mean a number of things, everything affects everyone in a different way. If your not a fan of MCR, you cant really know. But because Gerard Way has been clean and sober for 3 years now, and the rest of the band have overcome difficulties in their life, it gives people inspiration, especially when they love the music they make, and maybe idolise them. Also the music, the lyrics can get people through things.
Hope you understand a little more. What's the question again? sorry I got lost THIS ONE HAS SOME PRETTY GOOD EXPLINATIONS. I THINK YOU SHOULD READ IT

I'm a MCR fan. And a fan of about 20 other bands. ;)

MCR doesn't like to be called "emo' but I guess they got stuck with that image. They just concider themselves a ragular rock band because thats all they want to be. People don't see that so the media calls them emo but they don't like that. They are a pop/rock band.

When a fan says that "MCR saved my life" they mean something else kinda. They mean that their music saved them because it can relate to thier situation. So in a way, their music helped them cope with thier situation by showing them they are not alone because they (MCR*) are going through the same thing.

The "Oh, pitty me!" thingy isnt true. They don't want to people to feel sorry for them, they said that they don't care what people have to say about them. If they wanted people to feel sorry for them, they would be crying about M. Manson talking $h!t about them, but they're not.

I'm not one of those fans that will talk $h!t to you if you say something mean about them. Thats your opinion and mine is different. So thats the deal with MCR from a real fan. A nice one actully, see I'm not 'emo'. My wrists are clean and I don't walk around hating the world. I just love rock music and the style. ROCK ON!!!!!!!! Well, i am a fan. And no i havent been saved by them. But i really love their music. To me it seems like they really put out their all out on stage and in their songs. And you shouldnt be making fun of the ummm... emotional crowd, because they listen to this. Ive seen all social groups listening to them. I dont really care so much about what you say about them. I really look up to them though (especially Gerard). I would love to acconplish all that they have some day. B/C most of them are posers but the real ones saying that the band saved there life are the ones that was going throught a really hard time and found a outlet in the band. And that Gerard Way[Front man] almost comitted suicide untill he joined the band and started seeing he had a reason for life. So he started telling the crowed at shows that suicide was never a opition and that helped some thougth there hard times. But a big part of the ppl are just saying b/c some1 else did.
