Answers: The song is a story about a person who's lover left unexpectedly without leaving any contact information. THe singer figures that "she went back to Austin" which is assumed to be where she's from. She randomly calls him about a year after she's left and listens to his answering machine. She's amazed to hear that the message says he still loves her. She calls again in a week and although the entire rest of the message has changed (implying that he changes it often) he still says the "P.S. If this is Austin I still love you." She's prepared this time and leaves only her number. He's out of town and so she waits on the day that he's supposed to come back and mimics his messages and you think he's getting her answering machine except it's really her on the line and she says she loves him too.
