i need a single song not the best selling album people! The most famous would be :~

Candle in the Wind '97

The most popular is probably :~

Don't Go Breaking My Heart
or
Rocket Man

Just to clarify for people : Yes, 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' is a Beatles song, BUT Elton did a cover version in 1974, featuring John Lennon on guitar and backing vocals. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Candle in the Wind...especially after Diana carked it and it was remade for her.

Samia m ,,,you better tell your ear holes to listen more carefully,,,that was the Beatles............doh !!! Candle in the Wind is the top selling cd single of all time Your Song Candle in the Wind 97' which was dedicated to Princess Diana after she was killed in a car crash. I'd say Don't Go Breaking My Heart. It reached 1st place in UK (6 weeks), US (4 weeks) and Canada (3 weeks)! Candle in the Wind. After that it would be Your Song.
And I'm pretty sure Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds was a Beatles song. He has had so many hits so far and I can't decide which one is most famous. I think "Sorry seems to be the hardest word"? It's pretty popular to our generation since there was a cover with the Blue.
Anyways...let's have a look back in his early carreer:
The 1973 pop album Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player came out at the start of 1973, and produced the hits "Crocodile Rock" and "Daniel"; the former became his first U.S. number one hit. (Ironically this, like his other famous 1970s solo hits, would be popular in his native land but never top the UK Singles Chart; this achievement would have to wait two decades

In September 1997, Taupin altered the lyrics of "Candle in the Wind" for a special version mourning the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and John performed it at her funeral in Westminster Abbey. A recorded version, "Candle in the Wind 1997", then became the fastest selling single of all time, eventually going on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide, with the proceeds of approximately £55 million going to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. John would later win the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the single.
.... Your song.
