When would be a good time to switch to electric guitar?!

Question:

When would be a good time to switch to electric guitar?

i started accoustic about 4 months ago, i know that it's too soon now, but when in the future would be good so i can start saving up

Answers: its not really the kind of thing where you need to pick one or the other, its a matter of your tastes and what you like.

as a guitar teacher, i find its usually best to learn on an acoustic because its just you and the guitar, so it makes you learn technique a bit faster (a lot of time beginners just crank the distortion on an electric and dont realize they're making mistakes because they cant hear them clearly), and also, the strings on the acoustic are thicker, so you build up strength faster.

but there are people that start on electric guitar, and thats fine too. especially if the stuff you really want to play is hard rock or something. and there are techniques that you'll use on the electric that you just wont use on the acoustic. so, if you want to get one, i say get one.

if you've stuck with it this long, its a safe bet that you wont be quitting any time soon, so i say get one. you dont have to pick one or the other. its not like one is pepsi and the other is coke and you have to pick which one you like best. its more like one is ketchup and the other is mustard, they're both good on different things, and a lot of people use them together and like them equally.

and if you're trying to figure out what the best electric for you would be, dont just listen to someone who says "get a strat, they're the best", or "get a les paul, they're the best". learn about the different type of neck joints, pickups, tailpieces, and go pick up some of them at the store to see how they feel. music is entirely subjective. its up to you to decide what's right for you, whether its guitars, amps, picks, strings, pedals, etc... theres no right or wrong answer, theres just what you like (and can afford).

browse my best answers for more guitar questions if you like When you start listening to Jimi Hendrix when you get really good at playing accoustic...because mistakes on an electric guitar, sound SOOO MUCH WORSE! As soon as you can buy one. play what you want to play. You can learn on both. They have different techniques for each. i assume someone told you to start on an acoustic before electric.

Play what you like or you will stop playing. when your neighbors piss you off start saving up now. you can learn both at once, the sooner you start the closer you are to being the next hendrix. You don't really "graduate" or "move up" to an electric guitar ever. Each have their own feel and sound. The reason people usually recommend learning on an acoustic is because it's more forgiving and the larger neck and space between the strings allows you to learn better, whereas with an electric, the action is usually much lighter and not very forgiving as far as a missed or muted note played sounds horrible on an electric (unless heavily distorted). You can get an electric any time you want, just remember that most artists "experiment" and write most of their music on the acoustic then adapt the piece to the electric. I have both, and both are fun, but if I had to chose one to play for ever, I'd pick the acoustic. Have fun, good luck! when ever you want to , i played acoustic for about a month none stop then went out and got a cheap electric guitar so start saving now then u can afford a good guitar U can switch to a electric guitar when u have good command over ur acoustic guitar nd when u can play it without mistakes. I don't think it's too soon now. Start saving money NOW, because the sooner you get one the better. The electric guitar requires a slightly different technique (this depends on what you are usually playing), but is much easier to play than the acoustic, and you''ll be able to do much more with it than with the acoustic.
It depends on how much you practice, but if you know the basics of guitar playing, that's enough. I think that if you had the money, you could buy an electric guitar right now. It's time.
