Are there any artists/bands you don't like (or better yet, hate) but can't help, but respect?
For me, it's The Beatles. I'm not a fan of them (except their song "Helter Skelter" which freakin' rules!), but I respect their accomplishments.
Answers: The Beach Boys. I find most of their music very bland and milktoast. However, Brian Wilson is one of the most respected music producers in the industry. Brian Wilson an eccentric record producer who was inspired by another eccentric record producer known as Phil Spector. Brian Wilson used study Spector's Wall of Sound technique by listening to the Ronette's "Be My Baby" 30 times a day. The Beatles considered them rivals. And the competition brought the best out of both groups. The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds inspired the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Clud Band. Pet Sounds was inspired by Rubber Soul. Then of course comes the drama. Brian's conflict with his father, the manager of the Beach Boys. Brian's reclusiveness and massive weight gain. Brian's not leaving his bed for three years. Smile, the album that was never released. Mike Love's (his cousin/bandmate) lawsuit against Brian. Dennis Wilson's associate with Charles Manson, which resulted with a Manson composition (Never Learn Not to Love) on a Beach Boys' album. The band trying to seperate Brian from his therapist Eugene Landy (who save his life from drug addiction but exploited him). An intoxicated Mike Love slagging other musicians during his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech. Everyone from Stevie Wonder to Paul McCartney to Billy Corgan to John Stamos are fans of their music. I just find them very interesting and intriguing. I respect their contributions, I just don't like the music. rush No.
If I don't like an artist or band (like Pink Floyd, which I think sucks), then there is no respect for them, as my opinion is that there success is largely undeserved and is only attained by appealing to people that aren't as smart or tasteful as me. Michael Jackson, Madonna, etc. Basically any influential pop star of the 80's--I hate them, but they should be respected for their achievements, musically at least. Although I don't really respect what they've done in their personal lives. Especially Michael Jackson.
Oh yeah, and as sarah c said below, Edward Van Halen. I never liked his guitar work, but he definitely is a good guitarist in many people's eyes. Eddie Van Halen... acually I like Eddie Van Halen, I just don't like Van Halen (blame it on David Lee Roth) but I really do respect Eddie Van Halen as a guitarist.

Whoa... The Broken Planet.... how can you NOT respect Pink Floyd? You have to admit they were space rock/progressive rock pioneers Metallica, but the respect I have for them is very minimal the fake ones i guess i think black eye peas i dont like the musicbut they have exploded onto the scene Green Day

But they're good at what they do Believe it or not, Ashlee Simpson. I hate her music, but I respect that she's able to get her career back in order. I was forced to go see her live a while ago with my little sister, and she was actually somewhat better than I expected. Not good enough for me to really change my mind about her, but I respect that she can actually sing live and is still performing after that SNL fiasco. I respect Rap as an art and believe there is a true talent there but I hate most rap. 50 cent "In the club" Hate it. It's a great song though. U2....... I don't respect them now but...
I respect where they came from and how they got there. They didn't have an ounce of musical ability when they started. Their talent was so minimal that they actually couldn't perform covers, so they had make their own songs.
Never been a fan of U2. Like a couple of their songs but generally despise them. I would have to say U2. I know they are talented, but I do not care for their music. Micheal Jackson a real talent gone astray.
