I don't know. You get some of these guys in a 12 step program. Find the right pill and they may have been pop stars. Then the guys today would have nothing to copy. Happy Happy Joy Joy!

The blues is therapy.

Ecstasy on the other hand.... yeah we would blues is a feeling. a story of life basically and of the times the artist lived in. Blues isnt from depression its from oppression and life its self. Many of the old blues artists arent with us any more but there are still some and the 13 year old Kid from Florida Conrad Oberg is truely good he is reviving the old style and some newer. Of course we would, because Robert Johnson couldn't afford anti-depressants. He made his first guitar out of a cigar box for Christ's sake and you think he could have spared the money to splurge on pills or a doctor?
It's funny that you say if you had them in a 12 step program they would be pop stars, when a good portion of blues songs are 12 bar blues....just pointing out the irony seeing as the blues were around before the 1920's Yes.
Even if they had had antidepressants it still would have existed. Blues is a cultural expression of life in all it's facets not just heartbreak. Besides playing the blues and drinking whiskey still seems better solution than overloading yourself on prozac
