what about 2nd hand smoke? of course it does, havnt you heard all those old smokers with croaky voices on tv. plus it can give you throat, mouth and tongue cancer and you probably would be able to speak let alone sing. yea it sure does!! of course it does all that coughing really makes your thorat sore

but generally i don't think ya speak different but thats not singing i guess Some good singers smoke. Some people are affected by it some are not. Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. Amy Winehouse...What it primarily targets your breathing. It causes you to get short of breath and it will affect the way you reach notes and execute.Sometimes too much smoking can cause horseness or a scratchy throat. Of course when you experience this, you might have a hard time executing your notes. Second hand smoke does not directly affect the voice but lets say you are at a gig and there are smokers in the crowd, you can inhale their smoke as you are breathing in and therefore it might affect your breathing techniques but not necessarily your voice. Smoking effects every part of your body.There is nothing good about smoking. You could still sing but, your voice may take on a husky tone and, ever time your try to hit a high note,you would cough and, have a lot of breaking up in your tone quality.A lot of spitting up Flem.Your sinus will go nuts and drip a lot. Both smoking and 2nd-hand smoke are bad for your voice. The smoke has to pass right through the larynx (voice box), where it irritates it (and can even cause cancer there). Not...if you model your voice on Mr.L.Armstrong!... Speaking only from my experience, Smoking gave me a bigger range by about an octave lower. It definitely does! yes and yes!!!!
