Eva Cassidy

Eva Cassidy arranged her own version of the song and performed it at Blues Alley, a nightclub in Georgetown. This particular performance was recorded on hand-held video camera by Eva's friend, Bryan McCulley. 5 years after Eva passed away, this amateur recording of Eva was played on Top Of The Pops 2, a TV show in the UK. The producer, Mark Hagen, was having doubts about playing it on air due to the video's poor quality and amateur style of recording but took a risk by airing it on December 13th, 2000. The video had a phenomenal reaction from viewers. People were bombarding the studio with calls about the song, trying to find out more information about this unknown person Eva Cassidy. The video was later announced as the most requested video in the history of Pop.

Eva arranged the song differently to the original Wizard of Oz version and it is Eva's version that is more commonly covered by artists. This is even more astounding as Eva wasn't well-known at all when she recorded her version and all the cover versions are a testament to her outstanding talent.

-- dorthey and toto or was it liza manellies mom-hmm Hundreds of singers have covered this song since Judy Garland sang it in The Wizard of Oz. Beside Judy`s this is one of my favourites.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyvrfpm9t... Israel Kamakawiwo sang a hawaiian version of it that played on several movies and tv shows (ER/50 first Dates)

You can listen to it here, not a girl singing tho.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a2jt4wox... If you're talking about Louis Armstrong, you must mean "What a Wonderful World" instead of "Over the Rainbow." Israel Kamakawiwo'ole combined the two songs. Eva Cassidy also recorded "What a Wonderful World," as did Willie Nelson and many other artists. Louis Armstrong recorded the original version back in 1967.
