What do you consider classic rap music or rappers?!

Question:

What do you consider classic rap music or rappers?

So I just spent a very interesting evening conversing with this new up and coming rapper and his producer. And I'm curious, why is it that artist like Notorious B I G and Tupac have lyrics and beats that could stand the test of time? But you have these other artist that come out with these one hit wonders...you know those songs that end up being a ringtone....and next year this time you'll only hear it on a ringtone...so what makes Notorious BIG and Tupac, plus a few others to be considered a classic--like you never get tired of hearing their music--there are at least 6 cuts on one album that you would downoad--you could actually listen to their lyrics that were written a decade ago and this generation could still relate, make sense?

Answers: Classic Rappers (my opinion):
1. Rakim-Not only did he entertain, he also educated with some serious charisma. His is the most envied, copy-catted MC ever. Period.
2. KRS-One-There are several things about Kris. First, his name says it all. KRS-One= Knowlegde Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everything. Second, he's from the South Bronx, where Rap was born. Three, he never, ever, switched his style up for anything. Four, he was always and still a community activist. Five, he spoke the truth in his lyrics
3. Slick Rick-The most celebrated storyteller. He is also often copy-catted.
4. MC Lyte-No other female MC can match her lyricism. Always represented the ladies. So many classic songs, her songs on the list for the most sampled as well.
5. LL Cool J- Seriously, he has stood the test of time. He continued to evolve his MC skills, while still sticking to the script.

I could go on and on, but you get it.
Suggestion: VH1 Hip Hop Honors comes on 10/8. Watch it. A Tribe Called Quest will be honored--My favorite rap group of all time. Also, see last years as well. They are repeating it on VH1 Soul. Source(s):
I fell in love with Hip Hop when I first heard Run-DMC. Have been a fiend ever since. it's called"making money". the artist that you hear on the radio these days don't care about creating masterpieces to test time. they just want to make that money, and that's it. i can't stand the hip-hop today. all it is about is bling and women. come on people, what happened to writing about who you are, and not about the money you made on your last hit. who i would consider being a classic rapper is dougie fresh and the dream team. have you ever heard of them? Crap

and

Crappers The lyrics have to mean something. And the music has to be original and catchy. I think those are the real two keys. theres no such thing as classic rappers
