How Much Will You Pay For the New Radiohead Album?!

Question:

How Much Will You Pay For the New Radiohead Album?

The band are releasing their seventh album, "In Rainbows" themselves, and will make it available for digital download on their website, allowing you to decide how much you will pay for it.

Personally, I think I'll get the "Discbox", which includes the digital download, as well as 2 CDs and 2 vinyls, at a cost of £40.

What about you?

To people who say they wouldn't pay anything, if you like the band (which you may not), wouldn't it make sense to pay a small amount, say one or two dollars/pounds/euros/whatever. It's hardly going to break the bank.

By the way, the album is released next week, October 10th, if you wanted to know.

And MachPen, I'm the same way, when it comes to Radiohead, I wouldn't think twice about this decision, they're one of the best bands ever, and this is just something I'd love to have.

I wouldn't go as far as to call what they're doing as stupid, and I really think that if more bands followed this kind of model for distributing their music, it would be a positive change for the industry. I too like to have something tangible (which is where the discbox comes in), but I think the upshot of something like this is loosening the stranglehold record labels have on the music industry. How successful would most of the bubblegum pop princesses and insufferable faux-rock bands be today if they didn't have the backing of a record label peddling their wares?

No, for the time being at least, it will only be available on their website, although I wouldn't be surprised if, at some stage in the future, it went on sale in shops.

No, for the time being at least, it will only be available on their website, although I wouldn't be surprised if, at some stage in the future, it went on sale in shops. I'm a Radiohead nerd, and have already ordered the discbox.

If they want to give the album away for free, that's fine, it's their choice. I imagine they'll do something different whenever they release another record after this one,as they constantly change every aspect of what they do.

I do find it a bit worrying that, to an extent, bands such as Radiohead are basically giving their music away for free. Most artists can't really afford to do this. I don't have a problem paying for music, provided the artist is receiving the money and greedy record companies or shops are not stealing most of the profits. I love music and what it represents, unlike those who go online and steal it-A complete lack of respect and understanding of musicians and real music, that's how I see it.

What Radiohead are doing is unique, but I doubt it'll be the way forward for artists releasing music. They've taken this approach because basically they can afford to-they've made their money!

I'm surprised how many people answering this question have expressed their dislike of Radiohead-they're the best band in the world right now! Source(s):
Radiohead/music fanatic relax
don't worry about it NOTHING, NADA, ZIP. NOTHING.
I DONT KNOW WHO OR WHAT THEY ARE. AND TO THE GUY ABOVE SKILLZ WHY DO U ANSWER EVERYONES QUESTIONS WITH THAT STUPID PHRASE!
I HAVE SEEN COUPLE OF YOUR ANSWERS! U MUST NEED THE 2 POINTS BADLY!!!! I'm not a big Radiohead fan. But if I was, I wouldn't pay any more than anyone elses album. i will get it free as soon as someone shares it on lineon torrents lol Nope - won't pay a penny coz I don't like them - easy answer I'd pay 2 razor blades, a noose, 5 packs of paracetamol and a length of hose. Do their albums still come with the warning Listening to Radiohead may make you suicidal? Lo xxx I am a huge Radiohead fan, 40 quid for a "Discbox" is about 80 American dollars, which isn't really too bad for all of which you said was included (although some people would certainly argue that point, but that's how you can tell how big of fans they truly are) -- so, yes, if I had to, I would shell out that much without thinking twice. can't wait!

edit: Rukrym - agreed! I hope it has the same ambiance of
KID A :) And if it doesn't, I still wouldn't have wasted my money. We use dollars...a CD new would usally cost about $15. A package deal with what you said it included would roughly be about $45. even if i was given it for free it would go straight in the bin.......

edit: why pay for something if its free First I'd like to hear it before I decide to have it. nothing I'm not a huge fan to be honest Oh my, I would take out a second mortgage on my home and engage in Fear Factor type stunts to get my hands on it. Seriously, as great as Radiohead is (somewhat debatable) why would you pay more than the going rate for any other album? I don't like what they are about to do at all. It isn't revolutionary but stupid. This has come up a few times before, the subject of all CDs going away in favor of downloads. I hope it never happens for I still like something tangible. They are trying to market their music much the same way Scott Boras markets free agent baseball players. I would sincerely hope even diehard fans don't get sucked in by the hype. Is it only going to be available online?

Otherwise, I'd go pay whatever it cost in the store. If I had to choose, I'd pay whatever the CD would normally cost. As much as I love radiohead, I don't need all the fancy extra stuff. Just the CD and I'm good!

Can't wait to hear it! The real question is "How much is Radiohead going to pay me to compensate for my time for listening to that crap?"

I have a civil attorney on retainer in case of such an incident. is it going to be availible in stores? i will probably buy it there. im not much for downloading
