What are some good classical songs?!

Question:

What are some good classical songs?

I love listening to Baroque, especially any classical song with the organ piano played. Do you guys know of any (dark) songs with the organ piano?

Thanks

I've heard this music performed a variety of ways, but this is a first for me. I wish I could have found it played by Virgil Fox, who plays the Wurlitzer pipe organ brilliantly. He's long-gone now, but his music surely has been preserved. It's not the organ piano, but if you want powerful music, look for Fox's recordings.

Ritual Fire Dance by Manuel De Falla
This is an orchestral performance of the music:

Carmina burana: no 1, O fortuna by Carl Orff
This has a chorale portion, too, but it's magnificent!

Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach
This is my absolute favorite! You'll think of a number of horror movies at which some mad scientist or other played this on a pipe organ towering two stories or more.
Here's a sample on YouTube:

Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky

These sound wonderful on the organ, especially the Wurlitzer pipe organ, is you can find them. I'm not sure about organ piano recordings, but they might be out there; actually, I haven't heard any.

Wow! I just did! I looked for some on YouTube, and here's Davy Jones' very dark-sounding song from "POTC II":

This isn't classical either, but this seems to be becoming a popular piece: Wizards in Winter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzzqckzzo... NONE. I don't know my classical so well, but Bach seems to have a lot of dark organ type music.....I do have a favorite piece..not the dark organ type, which I like, but...Canon in D by Pachebel is awesome i have this CD:

most of those tracks are worth a listen!

FOR SURE: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor by BACH

good luck on your musical hunt! There are lots of dark pieces from the Baroque period with organ but few are songs - mostly instrumental pieces.
If you mean "or piano" - again the piano wasn't invented in the baroque period - so any songs would be an adaptation for harpsichord accompaniment. I would suggest Tomaso Albinoni's Adagio in Gminor.

Here is a video of the song with orchestration I found in youtube.com - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aatq0ow72...

Enjoy!
