What's One Album that Totally Slipped Most People's Radar that You Absol!

Question:

What's One Album that Totally Slipped Most People's Radar that You Absolutely Adore?

For me it was Pretty & Twisted (a 1995 side project from Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano) This might sound corny but it PAINS me to know that it didn't even get so much as a couple of reviews then, and it is completely out of print now... it was incredibly produced and her voice is beyond amazing in this one ... the songs "Souvenir" "Dear Marlon Brando" and "Singing is Fire" are masterpieces ...

How Soon Is Now - I was also a big fan of The Cult's "Ceremony" ... "Wild Hearted Son" still gives me goose bumps when I hear it, especially the awesome intro

You know what Buzzkill, I admit for a long time I had overlooked Cursive, but thanks to you, I've been paying a lot more attention to them now ... I will now certainly listen to "The Ugly Organ"

You know what Buzzkill, I admit for a long time I had overlooked Cursive, but thanks to you, I've been paying a lot more attention to them now ... I will now certainly listen to "The Ugly Organ" I could be wrong here, but nobody ever seems to have heard of New Zealand four-piece The Datsuns. Their self-titled debut was a really great, no-nonsense rock album. Not a very complex or original album, just good old fashioned rock. Like I said, maybe I'm wrong, but I've only ever met one person who's even heard of them.

There's also a lot of really great Irish bands that never get international recognition just because this is such a small country, bands like The Frames, The Immediate, The Redneck Manifesto, Bell X1. sigur ros Pink Floyd's Ummagumma, people instead just listen to Darside of the Moon or the Wall nine reasons to say good bye-a day in the life 'New Guitars In Town' [1980] Pete Stride [Lurkers] & John Plain [The Boys]

'Chequered Past' [1984] various members of Blondie & the Sex Pistols.

'Fallen Angels' [1984] Knox [Vibrators] & various members of Hanoi Rocks. So They Say "antidote for irony" No one ever talks about the debut album from Suede in 1993. There was so much hype regarding this band at that time, but unlike The Stone Roses they actually lived up to it. Of course it was all downhill after that. They lost their guitar player and the court forced them to change their name to the super awkward London Suede. But for a brief moment they were the second coming of The Smiths.

Speak for yourself, rukrym. I know all about The Datsuns and the Motherf***er From Hell. :-) Decomposer- The Matches "Adore" by Smashing Pumpkins 1998. Four Sail by Love. the tea party or just tea party the album was splendor solis cexcells by Blaqk Audio no one seems to really know about family force 5 and their cd "businness up front, party in the back diamond edition".. For me, it is "Rusty" by Rodan. A math-rock band somewhat comparative to Slint, Rodan only put out one album and a handful of 7"s before the members went to form their own bands, including June of '44 and Rachel's. Beautiful and violent at the same time, I listened to this album for days on end when I got it in '93-'94 and still throw it on from time to time.

The other album I worship that noone knows about is "Almaron" by The Mike Gunn. This album, by the stoner-rock trio out of Houston, I tore apart from cover to cover. The album itself sounds somewhat like a cross between Black Sabbath and The Allman Brothers with some twists thrown in. A friend of mine who owned a bar where they played told me they had been offered an opening slot for Soundgarden but turned it down because they had no interest about being so serious about their music. What do you expect from a band that on their first album only thanked Black Sabbath and Hanna-Barbera.

Also, throw in anything by The Green Pajamas. Those guys never got any credit and were pretty freaking brilliant. Pretty Ballerina by The Left Banke Chrisette Michele's "I Am"...well it's the first album and even though it was released earlier this year, I just heard about it 2 weeks ago. I think it's great and hopefully she'll get more exposure. The Ugly Organ by Cursive - it's like being at a sad, twisted side show of betrayal. Oh the torture : ) ten readings of a warning- all smiles new as i lay dying, bone palace ballet, worse than a fairy tale, plagues, *** ONE?! Thats an outrage!

But...

"Ceremony" by The Cult... people ignore it I guess... It gets reviews... not good ones though... it used to go for a penny on amazon ... =s The Madeira's "Sandstorm". Double Crown records. Not every one is into surf music, but this one is MASTERFUL. It is still available - I think it was released 3 years ago.

Honorable mention to They Might Be Giant's "Apollo 18" - many musicians in my generation have most of it memorized, but it didn't catch on in the mainstream. well the one i choose is The Rasmus with 'Dead Letters'. they are from germany but not many people in the U.S havent heard of them...i just absolutly love them!!

but it is possible that they didnt slip past people....we may never know.... i'd probably have to say Split Personalities by 12rods. i really don't think i know anyone that's ever heard of them, but every time i would play the album for people they'd really dig it. I also think Blind Melon's Nico was really underrated.
