Question:
Math metal?
I have a general idea what math metal is but does anyone know of a band that is textbook math metal so it is easier for me to identify it? While I'm asking.. is Fall of Troy considered math, even if in only a couple songs?

Answers: Math metal is characterized by a high level of technical musicianship. It generally has odd time signatures and strange sounding syncopations.
The Fall of Troy is not really math metal, but they do have their technical moments, falling more under progressive than math metal.
Think bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, and Botch. I'd say a lot of TOOL songs would fit into math metal/rock...
the off time kinda, technical stuff...
and maybe a few Opeth songs
