HelP Me!!!!!!!!?!

Question:

HelP Me!!!!!!!!?

On page 5 of Une Barque Sur l'ocean by Ravel, there is this measure where the left hand plays argeggios and the right hand plays something like a trill ( thirty-second notes). The rhythm is VERY incoherent at this point and Ravel simply switches from triplets to thirty second notes. it's VERY confusing. Should I play the right hand like a trill, but keep it at a reasonable tempo or I should make sure it goes with the left hand? I AM DESPERATE. I can somehow keep the rhythm strict but it's gonna take soooooo much time.

Answers: It will take some time. Are you referring to the measure with a trill from b and d# to e# in the right hand? It happens a number of times after that too.

The important thing here is not the speed of the trill. He has given you a graphic signal of where he wants the beat to fall -- it's important that we still get a sense of the 3 beats of this measure. He has gone to the trouble of subdividing those 32nd note grouplets into three clumps. What you need to do in the right hand is simply practice that trill until it becomes more or less automatic with as quick and even a motion as possible. Then when you feel comfortable with it, add your left hand, paying attention to those subdivisions, and do not worry about how the note values in each hand go together. They never will.

Hope this helps, and good luck You should play the right hand like a trill, at a reasonable tempo... then as u practice speed it up. Have u heard it? maybe it would help to actually hear it by a professional. but i think that u should stick to the music as how it is written, because that's how the composer wanted it to be
