Is a recorder difficult to play?!

Question:

Is a recorder difficult to play?

I just love the sound of recorders and Harpsichords.

Answers: Nope and for about 10 bucks you can get the yamaha soprano in that snazzy neon green - dont know why but that model has some great sound. The sopranino is darned fine as well - but the tenor that I have by them leaves something to be desired....
But hard to play? Nope. Thats why every fourth grader that I know had to learn to play one in music class..... Not hard at all. I taught myself to play one. (I've got a soprano and a tenor) not at all difficult ... and if you have any musical background even easier! ....but some of the best music for the recorder isn't all that easy but is still loads of fun ... there is TONS of great music for recorder for a beginning player and ALL of the recorders are fun play ... the best part of recorder playing is you can sort of mix and match parts (you can add modern strings with mutes on for example) and get that period feel They're easy enough to learn, which is why they use them to teach music to elementary school students. But, like anything else, they're very difficult to learn to play well! That will take years of practice and study. The baroque recorder repertory is very difficult. Octave control is the most difficult, as the instrument jumps octaves by overblowing. The repertory often includes rapid sequences in alternating octaves, so you need to rapidly alternate between normal blowing and overblowing. I've tried this, and have NO IDEA how the professionals manage it. Nope! Infact, it's easier than do-re-mi-fa-so-la-si-do on the piano.
