What does the word "sopra" mean in music?!

What does the word "sopra" mean in music?

There's a song that I'm learning on the piano and that word was used.

It means "above". It's the root of the term soprano.

But in piano music it means that your hands should play the measures in the piece with hands crossed.

In the piece, you may be playing a chord with your right hand that must continue being played even though you have to play a left hand part in a lower octave than the chord your right hand is playing.

Say, you're playing a chord centered on C3 and a lead with your left centered around C5. The lead then switches to C2 but you still need to continue the C3 chord. Instead of moving your right hand, simply cross over it with your left to hit the C2 range briefly then back to C5.
