Classical guitar question (from a complete beginner)?
when using my right hand should i hit the string with my nail (so that my finger is going downwards) or should i sort of pull the string up with the fleshy part of my finger, by up i dont mean away from the guitar but parallel to it.

and is it the same for both free stroke and rest stroke?
Answers:
When finger picking a classical guitar you will be using both . Usually you down stroke with the thumb.On the other five fingers you will use an upward 'pluck'.
Some use their natural nail and some use the fleshy part of the thumb. On steel string guitars some use their fingernails and some use thumb picks.
