No one can... George Jones was right. There will never be anyone like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, Hank Williams Sr., Charley Pride, Marty Robbins, and of course my all time favorite George Jones himself...there could never be anyone close. And the direction that today's so called "country music" is taking won't give the opportunities for those who like to sing traditional country music. I watched Josh Turner one night, I had heard him sing and loved his old fashioned style, his traditional sounding voice. He himself said that he preferred to sing traditional country but that it wasn't what the record companies were looking for anymore, and so that he would have to sacrifice singing the music he would prefer to sing in order to get deals and sell his music to the "newer generation " of "country music listeners". So there you have it, it's extremely sad...I didn't think I would be around to see the death of country music as I knew it..
