Why instead of boy bands, bands like the Temptations are not being made anymore !

Question:

Why instead of boy bands, bands like the Temptations are not being made anymore or are they?

It is 2007, boy bands and girl bands are kinda popular. In fact even PDiddy has his Making the band show where he puts together a group. But i think those bands are more about image and dance moves than about singing nicely. The question is, i'm sure there are people like me ( age 27) who still think good vocals are the most important NOT image or sex or dance moves, so why groups like The Temptations and all those great "The...whatever" from the past are not made anymore?

Answers:

Because it's all about the evolution of music and culture. The Temptations were the R&B "boy band" of their day, with their smooth moves and catchy hits. And in my opinion if you want to see the evolution of the Temptations, then you look at other R&B groups up through the ages and you'll come to groups like Boyz 2 Men and Bel Biv Devo, which definitely relied on good voice talent and harmonics. or even indivudual singers like Aaron Neville and Seal.

The Beatles were the rock "boy band" of their day when they first hit the scene: a pop group of young boys that played music and lyrics where their voices weren't 100% about quality (some of their songs, they screamed more than sang), and they played music that the kids loved and older people just didn't understand, even though it was catchy. The Beatles as a band evolved as they themselves got older, but if you look at all young bands there are these elements there depending on genre (the Police, the Ramones, etc.). Every genre has their boy band and girl bands. Punk, rock, alternative, R&B, rap, etc.

Just my two cents
