ive been told about it but ive never heard of it

Answers:

There is no official release by U2 as far as their cover songs go. However, there are quite a few bootlegs available on-line and through some independently owned record stores.

Lord knows they could release one. Here's just a partial list of the covers they've released under their own label. This doen't count live covers available on other bootlegs.

All Along the Watchtower from Rattle and Hum
(Orginally by Bob Dylan)
Unchaine Melody from the All I Want is You single
(Orignally by The Righteous Brothers)
Fortunate Son from the Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses single
(Originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Helter Skelter from Rattle and Hum
(Orignally by The Beatles)
Satellite of Love from the One single
(Originally by Lou Reed)
Dancing Barefoot from the When Love Comes to Town single
(Originally by Patty Smith)
Jesus Christ from the album A Vision Shared: A Tribute to Woodie Guthrie
(Originally by Woody Guthrie)
Can't Help Falling in Love from the Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses single
(Orignally by Elvis Presley)
Beat on the Brat from the album We're a Happy Family: A Tribute to the Ramones
(Originally by The Ramones)
Everlasting Love from the All I Want is You single
(Originally by Robert Knight)
