How do I become a better singer?!

How do I become a better singer?

I am a so-so singer now,but I would like to improve myself.
I also want to know what good songs will help me practice?
I can do high pitch songs,and newer songs.
Anyone help me?

I practice with my piano.
As I practice my piano scales,
I try and sing the notes, too.

But if you don't have a piano,
sing the do-re-me's everyday.
And everyday, try going higher and higher.
That'll be your morning voice scales.
[My choir instructor told me to cover one ear
so I could hear myself sing, somewhat.]
You can practice with that.
