Is synthesizing hard to get into?!

Question:

Is synthesizing hard to get into?

Keep in mind i've never even touched a synthesizer neither do i know how to use one...I'm still trying to decide whether to pick up an alesis micron or a microkorg but my question is if once i buy whichever one of these, will it be easy to learn everything there is about synthesizing and are there any tutorials or books i should pick up?

Answers:

I will try and give you a little something here from experience. Coming from a primary guitar background...I caught the synth bug myself. Didn't know anything about it at the time. If you already have some kind of music background it will help. But like anything dealing with music,no matter what instrument, you have to take it a step at a time and be patient. Persistence pays. I really love the synths I have and find them to be a huge help in the creative writing process. There are DVDs that you can pick up as training aids as well as countless Internet forums where you can get a wealth of information for free. If you want to check out the Roland SH-201 synth. Look at the top of the unit. Starting from left to right it basically shows you the process of synthesis. It is very user friendly and is a great piece for the beginner. Although it is very strong on sound and has many features for the advanced player as well. Of coarse learning some keys would be a huge plus but even that is funner on a synth. I say jump right in and have a blast. T
