Will 6 of us in a rock band really work?!

Question:

Will 6 of us in a rock band really work?

please help me i really need advice. i have a nagging feeling 6 could be too many and we may get compared to other bands who can do as well with 3 4 or 5 people. there is a singer two guiarists bassist drummer and keyboardist. however for some songs there wil be a slight swapping of roles between the guitarist and singer.
i need to know is 6 really two many? i really dont want to kick someone out=(

The answer to your question really is in a question. How well do the six of you communicate.
The band that I have played in that did "best" had 6 members in fact it was the same line up you mention
...but if the communication isn't there it won't last long. Stop thinking in terms of how other preceive what you are doing and only concern yourselves with how you are doing.

Most important is the Pro -Con list.
Pro more members more different influences when creating material yourself...Also dont rule out the chances of different types of arrangments for example if a song doesnt really call for a keyboard part, that would free up the keyboard player to play acoustic guitar or a percussion instrument

Con (Least important ) more ways to split the money...not really a factor unless you are entertaining enough to get booked
(most important ) means that there are more people that have to learn each song before it is right...every choice the band will have to make have 6 different people that have thier own ideas

As far as how people will judge you , Some will like you ,some wont no matter what you do.
IN the end you are eiather a good band or a bad band

Good Luck

Michael
