How can i fit a keyboard into my band?!


Question:

How can i fit a keyboard into my band?

i am starting a band and there are 6 of us.
one singer. one bassist. one drummer. two guitarists (rythm and lead). all that i know how to fit into a band. but there is also one keyboard player.. so what does a keeyboard do in a rock band? i mean a full time keyboard that plays in the loud songs as well as the quiet songs?
please help me!

That depends on what kind of music you're playing and how talented your keyboard player is. A lot of rock bands have full-time keyboard players. If you want to hear the full range of what a great keyboard player can do, check out Jordan Rudess on the Dream Theater CD "Train of Thought". He does everything from piano ballads to trading screaming heavy metal licks with John Petrucci. Most newer keyboards have guitar samples and built-in effects, so if there isn't a separate part for the keyboard player, he could double the rhythm guitar part. Organ and string sounds also work well for contrast in rock songs.
