Question:

What is the my chemical romance song ''welcome to the black parade'' about?

Answers:

its about a cancer patient and his journey(thoughts, feelings, life) while hes on his hospital bed.

ill try to explain the lyrics see if it helps.
When I was
A young boy,
My father
Took me into the city
To see a marching band.
- -okay here the patient remembering when he was young and his dad taking him to a parade (obviously) extra info gerard dad did take him to a parade when he was younger which probably influence that line. but the patient is not Gerard. patient is fictional

He said,
"Son when
You grow up,
Would you be
The saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"
-- his father telling hiim when he gets older will he stand up for kids that are messed up and misunderstood/that had a hard life. people that dont fit in.

He said
"Will you
Defeat them,
Your demons,
--patients father telling him to overcome his obstacles.

And all the non believers,
The plans that they have made?
-- overcome and prove people wrong that said he would amount to nothing.(extra info. most members from this band especially gerard and frank when they were in school people like teachers would tell them they will amount to nothing.)
by saying the plans that they have made they mean by people who try to put them down.

Because one day
I'll leave you,
A phantom
To lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."
--this is the fictional part of the story. MCR is the black parade aka their alto ego. the black parade significance is the celebration of life and deaf.

When I was,
A young boy
My father, took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son when you grow up,
will you be the saviour of the broken,
the beaten and the damned?"
-- already explained.lol

Sometimes I get the feeling, she's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
-- this one is pretty iffy. not quit sure but my best guess would be. his love is watching over him. and hes holding on to his life trying not to die but at times things get so hard he wants to just let go. "i feel like i should go"

Went through it all, the rise and fall
The bodies in the streets
-- all the things he has seen...like this world is ugly place with all the death, murder, ..... ya know.

And when you're gone we want you all to know
We'll carry on, We'll carry on
And though you're all dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout out loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call

To carry on

--umm i think this part means like even though this world and life is ugly. but their are also things living for. because there is also a lot of beautiful things in life and world. i also think this is the black parade telling the patient that his memory will carry on. well thats my outlook on it. influenced by the song. knowing alot about the band and hearing a lot of their interviews.

We'll carry on,
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches
On and on we carry through the fears
Oh oh oh

disappointed faces of your peers
Oh oh oh
--basically the same as my other explanation about life being ugly but has a lot more beautiful things to offer.

Take a look at me 'cause I could not care at all
Do or die
You’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Come and try; you’ll never break me
We want it all, we want to play this part
I won’t explain, or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed, I’m gonna show my scar
Give a cheer, for all the broken
Listen here, because it’s who we are
-- i think this is the positive look of the patient. saying that he can make it and his cancer is not going to defeat him

I'm just a man; I'm not a hero
Just a boy, whose meant to sing this song
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero
I
Don't
Care!

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on
Do or die
You’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Come and try; you’ll never break me
We want it all, we want to play this part
Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try; you'll never break me
We want it all, we want to play this part
We'll carry on
--- i think i explained this already

this song basically sums up the concept of the album. but all the songs can be looked as a whole and separately which is why i think its a phenomenal album. best ive heard. and the why they paint the picture with a song. amazing. the lyrics are brilliant. other topics the concept of the black parade talks about is: Fear, Regret, Mother War, Life, Hope, Death

songs that i THINK have those subjects
Fear,: , this is how i disappear, cancer{fear of leaving loved ones}, teenagers?.. others
Regret,-house of wolves, mama, blood
Mother War-Mama, blood
Hope- famous last words
Life- i dont love you, disenchanted, famous last words
Death, the end- welcome to the black parade, dead

btw the cancer patient was also a solider in his past you can tell by the songs like mama, blood, and house of wolves.

hope that helped sorry its long.
