How come "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" is such an under-rated album!

Question:

How come "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" is such an under-rated album ?

I love it and keep experiencing periods of "lamb" addiction.I know "Selling England by the Pound" is more popular but why is it so maligned ?

Answers:

I couldn't agree with you more. The Lamb is a masterpiece on par with many of the greatest albums ever - and yet you'll never see it on critics top ten lists. The name Genesis is poison to many people because of radio hits such as "In Too Deep" and "Hold On My Heart." Phil Collins got so massively huge in the 1980s that the backlash continues to this day. Even if Phil hadn't played drums on The Lamb it probably would still be underrated. Prog is simply not cool. Close To The Edge, Fragile, In The Court of the Crimson King and so forth will never be ranked near Sgt. Pepper or Exile On Main Street. It's a shame. Peter Gabriel is a genius, and yet most people only know him from a few songs from 1986.
