What is the meaning behind these songs?!

Question:

What is the meaning behind these songs?

What's the meaning behind the song "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming" by Green Day? I really don't get it . . .

(It's about the whole CD though..)

"American Idiot" begins with Jesus of Suburbia being disgusted with all the American Idiots in their "land of make-believe". He laments his fate in "Boulevard" as he treks in search of meaning. "Are We the Waiting" culminates with the arrival of "St. Jimmy," who is not just a character but actually Jesus' boyfriend (Billie Joe is bi, after all). He sings in "Give Me Novocaine": "Give me a kiss goodnight / and tell me everything will be all right, / tell me Jimmy I won't feel a thing...". In "She's a Rebel" Jesus encounters Whatsername who is "holding up my heart like a hand grenade," showing that Jesus is now attracted to Whatsername, and not to St. Jimmy. He lauds her in "Extraordinary Girl." In Homecoming, St. Jimmy kills himself. Jimmy is a Saint because he is a martyr. He is a martyr for Jesus, meaning he killed himself because Jesus has ended up with someone else -- even after all he's shown to Jesus. He names Jesus as the beneficiary of his will, which explains why he's filling out paperwork in "Homecoming's" "East 12th Street". Later in the segment he sings "somebody get me out of here", realizing what precisely his relationship with Jimmy was about. Soon he calls to a close his already-floundering relationship with Whatsername: "He had enough and she had plenty". In "Whatsername" Jesus reflects on his lackluster relationship with Whatsername -- he doesn't even know her name, after all! To close the entire CD Billie Joe sings, "I'll never turn back time / forgetting you but not the time," revealing that Whatsername is forgettable, but because of St. Jimmy the time he spent was not wasted.

Here's another from the same site.

Ok I've read the lyrics a few times to all the songs on this album and this would be the meaning I've developed for Homecoming: St. Jimmy, Jesus of Suburbia's (JOS) rebellious alter-ego, is lost to JOS when he begins to see that his new way of life (Rebellion) may not be what he really wants. While at first JOS thought everything was perfect being a punk, things got bad after he became lonely and whatshername broke up with him. JOS realized that the St. Jimmy he had been trying to be wasn't who he wanted to be, so in a sense the St.Jimmy of his mind committed suicide. "In this state of mind is my own private suicide". In East 12th Street, JOS has taken on once again the life of conformed American Idiot, as he is filling out paperwork in his new job. It's clear that JOS isn't very happy with this way of life though, " Somebody get me out of here. Anybody get me out of here" and the lyrics about daydreaming of being with the Underbelly. ( The Underbelly is JOS's crew of punk and rebellious friends) Nobody Likes You once again reiterates JOS's pain after his breakup with Whatshername that eventuallyled to his choice of giving up rebellion. When JOS recieves his letter form Tunny in Rock and Roll Girlfriend, JOS is reminded how to The Underbelly he is still seen as St. JImmy. When the letter is sent, JOS must be somewhat ok with conformity as the "So get off my case" lyrics in the letter seem to refer to JOS trying to conform Tunny. In We're Coming Home Again, JOS and someone else (Tunny?) are seen as coming back to the old life in the suburbs and being "American Idiots" again. " Go-carts and Guns are treasures they will bear" relates to the pastimes of the American Idiots that JOS is coming to be with again. The final lyrics of "Nobody Likes You" simply says that although JOS has returned to this life, he still remembers why he rebeled and he knows that he may never be fully accepted anywhere again, whether with those like The Underbelly or with his fellow American Idiots.

Hope they helped.
