What is a good distortion pedal for my electric bass?!

Question:

I'm on a tight budget but want to add some growl to my bass. I have Behringer V-Tone pedal but it doesn't have enough gain for what I want.

I tried my grilled cheese(which I like on my guitar) but it sounds like crap on my bass.
