Does age matter when learning to play the guitar?!

Question:

Does age matter when learning to play the guitar?

i'm 24 and i'd like to be able to play the guitar... i just thought that being able to play an instrument would be nice... is it too late for me?

Answers:

It's never too late- I took some lessons when I was 10(Nixon was president) and lost interest, since nobody else at home played an instrument. Well, fast forward 35 years(this was spring 2002) to a garage sale, I saw an acoustic guitar in a gig bag, my neighbor let me have it for 5 bucks-and threw in a lava lamp- I took the guitar to the shop, they did a setup and put some new strings on it, etc. and pretty soon I was teaching myself online. My oldest son, who was 7 at the time, soon started pestering me to teach him-my wife insisted that we get him a 'real' teacher. I had heard that the director of my church's folk group taught on the side, so I called him and explained the situation. In doing so, I mentioned that I had started playing again at the tender age of 45. He piped in "We need some new blood at the 10:30 Mass..." and I was roped in- this was in 2003- I've been playing for my church for 4 years now, and Mike has been playing with us for about 2 years now, he has a better ear than I do(the little S*** catches my mistakes when we play!) - and we get real quality time together when we jam. I think it's one of the best things I've done as an adult(unless you ask my wife when she sees a new guitar or amp in the house...)

If Eric Clapton can play as well as he does at 60, BB King is still playing and touring at 81, and Les Paul still plays at a club in Manhattan at 90+, well I'd say get moving, because your best years are ahead of you- Good Luck!
