It's a couple guys and a girl I think. The only song I have by them is "Secret Lovers" which was kind of a slow song (it was a T-Mobile commercial where the one guy put that other guy's girlfriend in his "Top Five" and then she called and that was his ringtone), but they could have done rap/hip hop songs as well. Most of their stuff was from the 70s and 80s, but they still performed up into the 21st century...
That's all I can think of, sorry. The only other rappers I'm coming up with is Gang Starr/Gangstarr and you said it wasn't them...
There's a couple solo artists that have "Starr" in their name, but most weren't rappers. Here they are if you wanna look and see if any of their names look familiar...
