Bass Guitar problem?!

Question:

Bass Guitar problem?

Hi, don't know if anyone can help, I just got a new Ibanez ATK to replace one that got stolen(arrgh) and the D string rings when played open (sounds like a tuning fork). I'm guessing it's got somethin to do with the bridge, although my last one didn't do it. Does anyone know if this is a common problem and if there's anything to do about it that doesn't cost anything? cheers

Answers:

Just a couple of thoughts.. if you've got any problems with a 'new' bass you've brought send it back if possible..and if you;ve brought through a shop retailer.. then they should set it up..free of charge and deal with buzz's and hums. You've paid good money and deserve good service (12 month Guarantee at least). However, it doesn't sound serious..the ATK range has a chrome plate under the bridge which can often react or resonate with your strings vibration..giving you a ghost harmonic.. I have played a Fender Precision with a chrome bridge hood and it did similar things ..also a combination of new strings/new bass make playing 'bright' for a few months. Check also that the D string fits well at the nut...Play around with your ATK's active EQ when amped up to cancel any unwanted harmonics.
