Electric or Acoustic Guitar? I'm confused:(?

I've just decided to choose guitar over piano. Now I don't know which kind of guitar I should get: electric or acoustic? I listen to Alternative rock and Rock mainly. No country or christian or Hilary Duff :D. If I buy an electric guitar, do I have to buy an amp? I heard someone saying that.

yes, if you dont buy an amp, your electric guitar will produce zero sound.

and it doesnt really matter if you choose either electric or acoustic, as long as you can play guitar. but if you cant play, just buy an acoustic first. it's more lightweight than electric, and it's cheaper too. you dont know if youre gonna like playing guitar for a long time or not, so that's the best solution.

if you've successfully become a good guitarist, you can buy yourself a good electric guitar with a good amp.
what's the point of buying an electric if you cant play, and if youre bored with it, youll just leave it in your closet? thats a waste of money.
