Haven't heard the song, but I read the lyrics. Some background first:
A degausser is an electromagnetic device that TV repairmen use to de-magnetize a picture tube to increase picture quality. It will also destroy the content of magnetic media. like tapes and magnetic disks, but won't affect laser-based media like CDs.
I think it's a great metaphor for what this guy has going on in his head, since degaussers are used to completely scrub hard drives to get rid of everything - viruses, formatting, OSes, etc... Maybe he worked in the comptuer biz like I did, and got the idea that way.
Think about being in a messed-up relationship and the lyrics make perfect sense... the title does, too.
