In theory, yes. If you can finger chords on a guitar, you should easily be able to find their bass note equivilent. An e note on a standard guitar is the same as an e on a bass, etc.
It's a much easier transition for guitar players to switch to bass than the other way around. Bass players don't need to know how to play bar chords, etc. But I know some guitar players that can only play a bass with a pick, which I rarely do. I also know guitar players that can't slap a bass string to save their lives. So as to playing style, it all depends on the individual, but in the end, you shouldn't have any issues figuring out the notes.
