Help! What should my next drumset be?!?!

Question:

Help! What should my next drumset be?!?

I have been playing drums for about a year now and my set is terrible. I purchased it not knowing if I would like drums and well, as it turns out, I love them. I play every day for at least an hour and I think I might want to make it my career (at 15, it's presumptuous, I know).

I have been eyeballing the PDP (Pacific Drums by DW) FS 6 piece set for a while now but I'm not sure. Before I go off spending $1,000 (that's about my budget) on a set I want to see what other people think. I want a quality set that is not deemed good just because of it's low price.

I am looking for a quality, 6 or more piece set (possibly 5 piece, if it's right). I don't need cymbals or a throne (although a throne would be nice) and looks are not that important.

Please be as specific as possible.

Thanks a lot for reading all of that excess and for answering my question.

Answers:

I happen to be a huge fan of Tama. All the answers you get are going to be purely opinion based, and this one will be no different. I have played Pacific, which produces, in my opinion lower level equipment, and didn't care for it at all. A lot of people will swear by Pearl's, I wasn't all that fond of them. I have had tama sets for years including Stagestars, Swingstars, I've also had Rockstars and now I play starclassics. I recently sat behind a set in your price range, the superstars and they were great sounding, durable, and priced right. Before you spent $1000 on Pacific, take a look at the Superstars and see what add-ons they have to boost you into a bigger kit... Also consider adding mini-tymps and other types of percussion to fill out your sound and range of what you can do...
