Answers:

Usually only cheap drum kits come with cymbals, and the cymbals that they come with sound terrible. Many times they include a single Ride\Crash cymbal that is supposed to do the job of both types of cymbal, but it doesn't have the stick definition of a ride, and the crash sound is not high pitched enough.

You can buy a cymbal pack that includes the basic cymbals needed for playing the drums (hi-hats, ride, and crash). Cymbal packs will usually save you some money.

I prefer Zildjian cymbals, but everyone has their own preferences. Here are some examples of some Zildjian packs with their prices online:

ZXT Pro Set - $300

ZHT Pro Set - $340

Zildjian A Zildjian Set - $600

The ZXT and ZHT sets are not fully hand hammered and don't have the nice overtones that the A Zildjian set has. There are also rock specific sets such as the ZBT Rock set, but I would get that only if you will always be playing loud Rock or Metal. The sets I listed are more versatile and can be played both hard and soft.

Another great option is to buy used cymbals. Many times, good cymbals will sound better as they age. Just make sure that there are no cracks or chips (small dents are fine).

If you buy cymbals that are not in a prepackaged set, make sure the different cymbals that you buy sound good together.
