How did Hip Hop and Rap music become the fall guy for the problem with America's!

Question:

How did Hip Hop and Rap music become the fall guy for the problem with America's youth and values?

I am sick and tired of hearing that rap/hip hop demeans women, that it teaches the wrong message. When will reassign the blame where it should be? With the parents

Answers:

I agree that Hip-Hop is probably not responsible for ALL the blame, HOWEVER, there are some pretty messed up messages in MANY types of music. Popular music has been a target of blame for issues relating to youth all the way back to the Jazz era...

Yes, some responsibility does lie with the parents - maybe to police what their kids watch and listen to a little bit better?

Not ALL hip-hop (or any music genre for that matter) is ALL bad, but constant references to "b*tches" and "hos" (keep in mind the Rutgers women's hoops team wasn't to hip on being labeled hos), gang-banging, gun violence, making drugs seem cool, some songs with no substance at all and about nothing but material possessions and BLING...is that what you want impressionable young people searching for an identity to see and hear?

Kids look up to WHOEVER they see on TV or hear on CDs or on the radio. If that person is glamorizing drugs and guns, "b*tches and hos", and money-grabbing - what are the odds of that kid trying to emulate that person they look up to?

I grew up with the first decade and a half of hip-hop/rap and I must admit that the message delivered by BDP/KRS ONE, Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, Public Enemy is A WHOLE LOT DIFFERENT than the message delivered by Chingy, Mac Dre, E40, Keak Da Sneak, 50 cent, etc...

So it could be half the parents and half who the kids idolize...but ANY form of music that glamorizes drugs, violence and misogyny is NEVER good for young minds.

That is just may take on it...
