Is it too late for me to be awesome on the piano?

I'm 14 and I plan to take up piano lessons soon if we are able to purchase a piano.
I asked my music teacher how long has she been playing the piano because she's great on the piano.
She told me she has been playing the piano since she was 5 yrs.old and it made me think if I will ever be great on the piano.

I really want to learn to play the piano.
Whenever someone tells me to play keyboards instead because it's easier, I refuse to do what they say because I like the piano better.

So, will there ever be hope for me to become good at piano?
Will it take me 10 years to be good?

Actually, this is a great time for you to learn piano.

You're old enough to be self-motivated and to know what you really want. This will help you keep practicing and stay focused on your goals! Even better that you have a teacher you admire, that will keep you inspired.

You can definitely be an excellent pianist! The key is consistent practice. 15 minutes a day is much, much better than 2 hours on Saturday -- your brain learns best by daily repetition.

And play music you love right from the beginning. There are plenty of piano methods out there, so you can pick music you like, that will encourage you to practice.
